The Innovation & Technology Department of the City of South Bend is seeking a dedicated Cybersecurity Specialist to help build and enhance the posture of our cybersecurity program. This role will work within our I&T Department to help the team build and strengthen our risk mitigation skills, incident response plans and the overall communication of the city's cybersecurity strategy.

The Cybersecurity Specialist will be responsible to help safeguard the city government's digital infrastructure, data, and networks against cyber threats. The individual will collaborate closely with other IT professionals, city departments, and third-party vendors to establish, implement, and maintain security practices, procedures, documentation and policies building upon the city’s commitment to safeguarding our digital and physical assets and the sensitive information of our residents.The Cybersecurity Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring our I&T systems are resilient against cyber attacks and adhere to local, state, and federal compliance standards.

This role will work closely with the Chief Technology Officer to develop plans and report on the impact of building out the city’s cybersecurity program.

$50,000-$60,000, depending on experience

● Participate in the Cybersecurity Taskforce
● Assist in the development of cybersecurity policies and procedures to institutionalize cybersecurity policy and process knowledge in writing.
● Help to develop cybersecurity documentation standards for the city.

● Review and document in place cybersecurity processes and practices against the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
● Follow-up on initial cybersecurity risk assessments completed in 2023 and map out a plan to review and implement recommendations to further strengthen the cybersecurity posture of the city.
● Develop materials to help promote the cybersecurity culture of the city.
● Ability to track the progress of and guide others in their efforts to build out our strategies and procedures for cybersecurity.
● Prior knowledge of or ability to learn quickly the technology used in the position including Microsoft Suite, Outlook, and mobile devices.
● Prior knowledge of or ability to learn quickly about cybersecurity initiatives and programs from local, regional and national resources.
● Ability to notice trends and share information with leadership and other involved teams.

● Build out existing cybersecurity reporting, dashboards and create a schedule and assignment for review of these metrics.

● Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science with a focus on Cybersecurity , or related field or relevant work history.
● 2 years experience in cybersecurity focused field.
● Experience creating procedures, plans and policy documentation.
● Experience communicating complex information to diverse audiences.

● Ability to be self-directed and think critically.
● Ability to see big picture and translate the vision into manageable projects and tasks with proper prioritization.
● High degree of comfort working on a new project and with a diverse clientele.
● Proven customer service skills, oral and written communication skills, and organizational skills.
● Can balance multiple demands and work productively in independent and collaborative settings.
● Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, Outlook and how to operate mobile devices.
● Familiarity with Cybersecurity best practices and frameworks, specific knowledge and understanding of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework beneficial
